Blige pump

Automatic Bilge Pump Maintenance

The automatic bilge pump is an important and functional device. It is possible that you do not need to replace or repair your pump, although it is most worth knowing how someone can troubleshoot it. When it comes down to it, an automatic bilge pump is a water pump.

Your Submersible bilge pumps will most frequently be found in the lowest available section of the boat.  In most cases, the pump will be automatic, like a well-known Rule bilge pump and will typically be connected to your boat's power supply. You find that larger boats can have more than one bilge pump.

At some stage of your boating career, you'll no doubt need to service or replace your automatic bilge pump. It's advisable to always have a good pump in fine working order. Of course, you're going to have to locate it on your boat to start with.

Testing The Switch

Once you install your automatic pump, you should be able to see a switch with three settings. These will probably be 'on', 'off' and 'automatic'. It should usually be set automatically so that the pump turns on when the water level is at a certain point.

If your pump is running fine, you need to turn the switch. The thing to remember once you check it is to change it back to or auto settings.
